A system has been designed by Microsoft works around hardware of your system. Windows 10 utilize the amount of installed RAM in place of compressing standard files list to decide how frequently a file is expected to be recalled.

Likewise, if your system has a fast working CPU for decompression of files, the chances of compression of files will be more and consequently, more space will be saved.

There is a trick which you can use to enhance space in your computer while upgrading from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10. At the time of upgrading, all the old system settings of your computer were moved to a folder named Windows.old. Usually, this folder lies in C:\ drive for 10 days until it is destroyed by itself.

However, it contains huge chunk files and occupies a lot of space on your hard drive. You can also see more than one such folder due to a number of reasons and taking up a lot of your space. When the folder is removed itself it will create much space in your computer.

You should delete this folder if due to any reason it remains intact and undeleted. But if you deleted this folder once, it will be gone forever because normally it is too big folder to send to stay in Recycle Bin.

So, if you want to go back to your old version, avoid deleting such folders permanently because it covers all of the system settings and related files. If you delete these files without proper backup, it will ruin your life.
